Without a doubt the digital transformation was exponentially accelerated due to the effects of Covid-19. The simultaneous interpretation industry has not been left out.
In spite the technological advancements and all the noise around the automated simultaneous interpretation, we do not foresee that in the near future it can replace human interpreters.
The current trend is to see more and more remote simultaneous interpretation or RSI.
It is noteworthy to say that this type of interpretation can be used for on-site, virtual and hybrid events.
While remote simultaneous interpretation does bring new challenges, also brings new opportunities for users and interpreters.
The geographic distance is not a barrier any longer to hire and to render simultaneous interpretation services. Additionally, the cost of transport, housing, travel and expenses has been cut down when using the technologies available.
This industry, as many others, has suffered a great deal with the restrictions imposed to the on-site events. As the situation improves, we will see that the language services can be rendered on-site or on-line.
The third option is that the events not necessarily will be one or the other, it might be the case that the event will be hybrid and the interpreters will also be able to work on-line or on-site.
The market, as well as the economy has suffered a big hit, however, it also opens new opportunities that can be exploited for the benefit of the language service professionals as well as the suppliers.
